The End of August...

It is the end of August, so you know what that means? Well it means students go back to school and the end of the racing season is just around the corner. It feels like it was just March a couple of weekends ago and we were starting our race season and now we only have a few more races until 2010 is in the books. But it has been a great 2010 so far with 5 wins and 4 semi-final appearances and a bunch of rounds, so all in all a good season (and it isn't over yet!). So what to do with a few more races left? Well first off, don't give up, there is still time to change the things that need to be changed and keep doing the things that you are doing right. I know a lot of people only want to change things or do something different or try something new at the beginning of the season, but if there are things that need to be changed or you think you might like try to something new, why not in September or October? Maybe it is just the change you need to end the season on a positive note and then you will be ready to start fresh next season and won't have to try everything new.

This is a GREAT time to purchase some Tuff Paw Aluminum Products when you remember exactly what you need! Top 10 Tuff Paw Aluminum Accessories and Products for 2010!

It is a NEW YEAR and what better time to think about organizing your trailer for the next season. An organized trailer means you can quickly find what you need when you really need it. An organized trailer also allows you to easily identify what you need to replace. And an organized trailer makes working on your car a lot easier and more enjoyable. And finally having everything in its place helps protect your items.

At Tuff Paw Aluminum Products and Accessories we have hundreds of items to select from, but for this New Year, I decided to make a list of the TOP 10 Aluminum Products you just have to have for your organized trailer!

#10--Oil Rack

Every trailer needs an oil rack. My personal favorite is the TP 410 that holds 24 quarts of oil or tranny fluid. AT $89.99 it is a great buy and can store a lot! We have other sizes too.

#9--Tie down Holders

Having spare straps or straps laying on the floor at the event or races is just inconvenient. Hang them up. I would suggest either 2 small 6" holders for each side (TP 404) or one 18" holder (TP 463).

#8--Door Cabinets

What is a trailer without a door cabinet to store all that stuff you want to quickly be able to grab? We have a big door cabinet for the person who needs a lot of storage or my personal favorite is the medium door cabinet with flip shelf and towel holder (TP 425).

#7--Fuel Jug Holders

Every racer or car enthusiast needs to safely and securely haul a little gasoline or alcohol fuel. At Tuff Paw Aluminum Trailer Supplies--we have you covered from 1-4 fuel jug holders.

#6--Jack Holders

To keep that jack secured you need either the standard jack pouch that hangs on the wall or the Tuff Paw TP 426 floor mounted jack holder that is a real value!

#5--Extension Cord and Air Hose Hangers

At Tuff Paw we have misc hangers to hang extension cords or air hoses. These really help clean up your trailer or shop and we have lots of different sizes and styles.

#4--Helmet Holders

Keep your helmets, coats, gloves, neck braces, etc. organized in the Tuff Paw single or double helmet holder with garment hanger.

We all have papers, log books, rule books, flyers, etc. that we need to take to the races. Keep them organized and easy to find in the Tuff Paw standard Log book holder or my favorite the BIG log book holder (TP 445) and be on your way to an organized year!

#2--Speciality Misc. Holders

After you have the basics such as oil racks, helmet holders, and tie down holders, then you can get more creative to organize your trailer for the items you most care about. At Tuff Paw Aluminum products we are racers, so we have created a few items to organize some specific racing needs: The TP 421 is a really handy silicone and spark plug holder, The TP 426 holds air gauge accessories, and the TP 423 is our unique gasket holder. These are just three of my favorite speciality holders (so yes my list is a little longer than 10 items!).

#1--I have a tie for my favorite aluminum product to organize a trailer.

Every trailer should have a TP 458 Fire extinguisher holder so you can easily find and get a fire extinguisher if you should ever need it. But my favorite is the simple TO 427 flashlight holder so that you can always quickly find a flashlight when you need it.

Make a New Year's resolution to organize your trailer--these are my Top 10 Aluminum Products, but I didn't even get to include NOS or CO2 holders, but this is a pretty good start and there is always next year!!! Happy New Year!

Wow, where does the time go?
We can't believe that another year has come and gone.
For the new year we are constantly designing new products for racers. This winter Mike was working on his carburetor and said, "wouldn't it be great to have a work station to hold your carb for safe and easy work?" Tuff Paw Dragster in the Winner's Circle!

This weekend at Gateway International Raceway the Tuff Paw Dragster was in the Winner's Circle. Of course Mike drove well, the car ran its number, and we got a little luck just when we needed it, but I also like to think that the Tuff Paw Aluminum Products helped us too. For one thing, in between rounds we always knew where everything was stored at. It was easy to get access to fuel (in the Tuff Paw fuel jug holders), we always knew where our tire gauge was (in the Tuff Paw glove box), we could quickly find the shoe polish (in the Tuff Paw shoe polish holder), we had our log book and time slips organized (in the Tuff Paw log book holder), and our dial in was displayed well (with the digital delay dial in board and Tuff Paw dial in board holder). We also want to thank all of our friends who helped us this weekend. A bright idea from Tuff Paw: Dial In Mounts!

If you are a bracket racer, then you have to show that Dial In. For those folks, not drag racers, a dial in is the time we put on our race cars that is our best guess what our race car will go. For example, we might think that our car can go an 8.02 seconds in the 1/4 mile so we would have an 8.02 as our dial in. In the good old days, we all used shoe polish and would write the dial in on our cars with shoe polish. And then someone came along and made a shoe polish that was easier to wipe off. At Tuff Paw we make a shoe polish holder that is really handy because we all sometimes still need shoepolish to write something on the car.

But in recent years dial in boards have been developed. These dial in boards come with the ability to make the numbers clearer for the race car towers to see from a distance. The popular flip style is a black background with white pieces that you flip around to form the dial in. Recently, Digital Dealy had a really bright idea and created an electronic dial in board. The cool thing is that the dial in board on the car is electronic and glows in the dark so it is easy to read. And then the Dial in board is attached to a screen within the racecar, so the driver can change the dial in from INSIDE the car. This is really nice for guys with dragsters who don't have any pitcrew people to change or check their dial ins.

Well, with these great new dial in boards, you need a GREAT dial in holder mount! At Tuff Paw we have dial in mounts that hold these different styles and they look great. In addition, the dial in mounts can swivel so you can show your dial in from multiple sides of the dragster (right, left, or straight back) depending on what dragstrip you are at! Best kept secret from Tuff Paw Aluminum Trailer and Shop Products

Of course I think that every product that we sell at Tuff Paw Aluminum Products for your trailer or shop is useful. However, we certainly have "best sellers" and things that everyone wants. For example, the steps, door cabinets, and jack holders are huge sellers, and this makes sense because they are really useful. We just had a person tell us, they don't see how they ever got by without a step. But we also have some products that fewer people buy, but once they do they really appreciate the product. The product that I think is our "best kept secret" or the product that people just don't buy as much as they should is the Gasket Holder. Maybe people just don't think about gaskets. Maybe people think they need some other product more and will get the Gasket Holder later. Or maybe they just don't get this really unique product. Because we are racers, we know the things that are difficult to store like gaskets. This product can hold a spare set of almost all of the gaskets that you carry in your trailer or have in your shop. Most racers will have at least $200 in gaskets and if you don't take care of them, they will be worth nothing and you won't have that spare gasket when you need it. There is enough space to easily store your header and valve cover gaskets as well as little hooks for your other smaller gaskets. The secret is out, take another look at the gasket holder and you might find that this is exactly what you need, even if you didn't know it! Thanks for looking!

All J-A-C-K-E-D UP!!!

What is one of the hardest thing to hold in your trailer? What heavy darn thing don't you want rolling around the trailer hitting your important cargo? What piece of equipment used to take two football offensive line men to move? Well of course the answer is the jack! You have to take a jack to the track to jack up your car, and you never know when you are going to need it...some guys use it to warm their cars up, others only use it when something isn't quite right. But regardless of why and how much you use it, you have to take a jack to the track (and some guys even take a couple of jacks!) and you want these items to be stored securely. Then of course we still have the heavy steel jacks but many people have gone to the light weight aluminum jacks. At Tuff Paw, we have a holder for the steel jack and two styles for the aluminum jack. One is a sleek pouch that the jack can slide into and even has a little storage area for the handle. The other is a floor style with a bracket for the handles to slide into and a separate bracket for the handle. The interesting thing about aluminum products is how you don't even know what you need and then people see it or get it and think, "How did we ever go without this?" If you have a trailer and you ever have to jack it up (or even if you don't have to jack it up), nothing is more annoying than stepping in and out of the trailer. Lots of people have bought the step from us and everyone of them is amazed by how much it helps at the track. The steps come in 31" 42" and 54" to fit all trailer door sizes. The step also flips into the trailer or it can be easily removed with just 2 pins! They also can be made with smooth aluminum or deck plating. The deck plating is a bit more popular because of the added grip.

In my last post, I suggested getting started with organizing your trailer or shop with a 24 qt holder or the super holder. For trailers the door cabinets (the regular or large size) store products plus have a handy shelf and this is another great starter piece. Getting Started with Aluminum...

Of course, we think that everyone needs a complete trailer or shop full of Aluminum! But we have a lot of people ask us where to start organizing their shop or trailer.
Well that is a tuff question (pun intended). But most people would opt for one big cabinet. Either the super tuff paw organizer that holds gallon size jugs on the bottom, oil in the middle, and aerosol on the top or else the 24 qt oil rack with 3 shelves.
Take sometime to decide what you really need to organize and as Nike says, "Just do it!"
Get one piece to get you started and then you can work from there. It probably took you years to gather all of the stuff in your trailer or garage, so it might take you a while to organize it.

May I suggest the super rack to get you started? You will be amazed by how much this can hold!

Mike and I finally have an "off" weekend. No racing. We need those every once in a while. Last week we had a good weekend racing at Byron with the MidWest Super Comp group. Got down to 8 cars and then Mike went red (.399). For those of you non-racer types, going red means leaving before the light turns green and it results in an automatic loss--arghh...But hey, we also sold some Tuff Paw products and had a couple of special orders. Who's Your Daddy?

Over July 4th we returned to Byron dragstrip for a big buck bracket bash. Mike (in the TuffPaw dragster) was driving great (super lights all weekend with an average light of .510!) and the car was running pretty good. But luck just wasn't on our side this weekend, only went a few rounds and got beat by a few thousandths of second (wow, just a few thousandths!).
So that is the bad news, but the good news is that my mom and dad (dan and wendy hedges) won the big race on Saturday. And then on Sunday a friend of ours from Wisconsin, Banger won. I guess if we can't be in the winner's circle then it is good to have your family and friends win! Congrats to dmo and banger--way to go guys! The Land of the Rising Sun...

Sorry that I haven't posted for a little while, but I have a really good excuse! I was on a wonderful 2 week trip to Japan. McKendree College sends one faculty and two students on a trip sponsored by Technos University in Tokyo. I had an amazing time. One of the many highlights of the trip for me as a car lover was my trip to to the Toyota Amlux. On my one free day I hit the trains all alone! and made my way to this outstanding Toyota museum and car show. There were a lot of cool interactive exhibits where I got to stand in a small video projection stand and hear and feel what it would be like to drive an Indy car! I also got to see all of the new Toyota models and they had a complete exhibit about Toyota racing. All in all it was a great trip, but now I am back to teaching, back to selling TuffPaw Aluminum, and back to drag racing. I learned a lot on my Japan trip, but perhaps one of the most important things was to live life fully in the moment and to take advantage of every opporuntity that life offers.

We just got back this weekend from racing at Byron Illinois (the playground of POWER!). The weekend was a pretty sad weekend in terms of racing for the TuffPaw Drag Racing Car. The dragster that normally runs pretty good (low 8's in the 1/4 mile) had some mechanical problems and Mike spent most of the weekend trying to figure out the problem. We had a lot of friends at the track and they all worked hard changing converters, cleaning out fuel lines, etc. and finally on the last day the car started to run correctly. But if racing was easy everyone would do it and everyone would win all of the time. I think at the track and in life you have to be able to roll with the punches and hang tuff. And even though the racecar was not cooperating, it was great spending time with all of our friends who were at the track. We also did sell a lot of aluminum products and lots of people can't believe how nice it is to have a place to store your stuff in the trailer. Tuff Paw Aluminum is more than you want and exactly what you need!
